We Help People" - this is the essence of the mission of the Federal Way Fire Department. The desire to help is embodied in everything that our employees do for the greater Federal Way community. The Department provides a variety of emergency response services including fire suppression, emergency medical services, hazardous materials and specialized rescue response. This service is delivered with six engine companies, 1 aid car/ladder company and one shift Battalion Chief responding from six fire stations located throughout the community.

The department responds to an average of 9000 emergencies per year, 75% of which are emergency medical in nature. In addition, the Federal Way Fire Department recognizes the value of prevention and provides a breadth of prevention activities (fire, injury and illness) for the community. Our highly skilled personnel allow the Federal Way Fire Department to provide an extremely high level of service to those residing in or visiting our community.

Our department is a freestanding fire district governed by a Board of Commissioners that include:

Commissioner Mark Freitas (Chairman)

Commissioner Roger Hershey

Commissioner Mark Thompson
