Queen Alison Bentley

The Wayne Volunteer Fire Department held a contest in 2010 and announced the winner of the 2010 Wayne Queen Contest. Miss Alison Bentley, a sophomore at Elmwood High School, daughter of Thomas and Joanna Bentley, Wayne, Ohio, was chosen as the 2010 WVFD Queen. Ali will continue to participate in the larger NOVFA Queens competition for additional scholarship funds. There are more than 150 volunteer fire departments in Northwest Ohio that are part of the NOVFA Association.
To be selected as the Fire Queen of Wayne and her court, young ladies had to be between the ages of 16 and 18 or graduate from school and must reside in the Wayne Fire area. Young ladies from the fire district are selected for an interview with a panel of judges from the community and receive a place in the first places as a queen, as well as 1st and 2nd place runners-up. All members of the Royal Court receive scholarships from the Wayne Fire Department for their community service.

The contestants were interviewed one-on-one with three judges, and also presented a written essay about the life of women in the firefighter profession. At the conclusion of the interviews, it was announced that Alison Bentley had been named the 2010 VFD Wayne Queen, taking first place in the competition for her interviewing and essay writing skills. Two additional Elmwood students were selected in a competition to volunteer for the Wayne Fire Department's Royal Court during the same essay/interview selection process. They are Katie Riser, Elmwood's eldest and daughter of Kelly and Kayla Riser from Wayne, and Elizabeth "Liz" Chris, Elmwood's youngest, daughter of Michael and Doreen Chris from Wayne.

The Wayne Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank all participants for their participation and interest in serving their community in this capacity. We look forward to each of these ladies representing the Wayne Fire Department in 2010 at local and regional events. The Wayne Fire Department and the Elmwood community are very proud of Alison Bentley, Katie Riser and Liz Chris, and we congratulate each of these young ladies on their honors. Congratulations to all these young ladies!

The Wayne Fire Department is also very proud of our Queen of Wayne 2008 and 2009, Vanessa Schwind of Wayne, also the holder of the title of Queen of NOVFA 2008, and thanks her for representing not only the Wayne Fire Department, but also Elmwood and the village of Wayne in this capacity. We wish her all the best in her plans for the future after graduating from high school. The Wayne Volunteer Fire Department would also like to thank Vanessa for her achievements and excellent participation in local events serving the community and the Northwest Ohio Volunteer Firefighters Association.
